Creating and administering wills, trusts and other estate planning documents that preserve and transfer the meaningful legacies is the life's work of David M. Lutrey. He carefully develops individual client-centered estate planning that is informed by regular sessions of problem-solving and brainstorming with trusted financial, insurance and accounting colleagues. Clients appreciate that their lawyer provides them with a complete estate planning perspective that is integrated with their financial, insurance and accounting goals.

Mr. Lutrey is a seasoned litigation and appeals attorney in the areas of trusts, estates, probate and guardianships and appears regularly in the trial courts of Lake, Cook and McHenry Counties. Significantly, he argued before the Second District Court of Appeals in the Estate of Weiland, the landmark case that in 2003 established the standard of proof for Totten Trusts in Illinois.

In August of 2010, the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) honored Mr. Lutrey with the appointment as Chairman of the Trusts and Estates Section Council's Legislation Committee. In this capacity, Mr. Lutrey and the Committee evaluate and propose needed revisions to Illinois statutes affecting probate, trusts, estates, guardianships and elder law. Currently, the group is working on significant revisions to the Illinois Trusts and Trustees Act (the law governing trusts), designed to provide Illinois residents with greater flexibility in creating and administering trusts.

Mr. Lutrey serves as an arbitrator with the 19th Judicial Circuit in Lake County, Illinois, and he serves on the legal education and outreach committees of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education's Estate Planning Short Course, the ISBA's Trusts and Estates Section Council and the Chicago Estate Planning Council. He is a Past President of the Lake County Estate Planning Council. In these capacities, Mr. Lutrey has organized a number of seminars designed to educate lawyers of all disciplines on matters pertaining to trusts, estates, probate and guardianships.

Mr. Lutrey is a frequent speaker and writer on estate planning, administration and litigation issues for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education (IICLE), the Illinois Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association and numerous financial institutions. Mr. Lutrey is also a periodic author, including the article Durable Powers of Attorney and the Disabled – Who's Watching?, published by the Lake County Bar Association in 2007, and treatise style legal syntheses for attorney ethics and trust and estate litigation published in the IICLE Estate Planning Short Course books for years 2009, 2010 and 2011.
